Posters for musical events

Project Summary

These posters are produced on request from various small independent events in France. Most of these events put on shows within a broad spectrum of experimental music, which allows me to approach typographic composition freely and push the limits of legibility as much as possible.

Project Information

The process is simple and methodical: I define a grid based on the information and number of letters. In all the small rectangles I get, I use a template guide to draw circles of varying sizes that give me the architecture of the font. I try to find as many typographic variations as possible using this constraint. I enjoy creating complex images with very few tools.
I approach the whole thing like weaving. The basic grid corresponds to the vertical warp yarns, on which I draw the weft threads that create the overall ornamentation in a repetitive gesture. An image of a carpet: comfortable for listening to music in which the eye gets lost among the patterns.
These posters have been created over several years. I value the slow pace of production and the pleasure I get from drawing simply with a mechanical pencil at a 1:1 scale.
Regarding distribution, they are photocopied and printed in black and white on colored or plain paper to be displayed in the street.
