The Cloud, and Beyond the Infinite is a real-time rendered digital installation that explores the relationship between digital technology and the natural environment. Centered around the concept of the “Cloud,” the work connects the natural and digital worlds, revealing the intricate and often concealed cyclical interplay between them.
The installation is constructed within a metallic rectangular cuboid frame measuring 360cm × 220cm × 50cm. A large display screen mounted on the front serves as the primary visual interface, while the rear houses four computer units and auxiliary monitors that form the integrated technical support system.
Through 3D simulation and real-time rendering technologies, the piece constructs a conceptual cycle around the “Cloud”: natural clouds are simulated and transformed into the digital world stored in the new Cloud (data centers), while the carbon emissions generated by digital storage in turn affect the atmospheric environment. This creates a closed-loop system that moves from nature to the digital world, and back again to nature.
This cycle reflects the artist’s multidimensional interpretation of the “Cloud” — as a natural phenomenon in the sky, a medium of storage in the digital age, and a metaphorical bridge between the virtual and the real.
