Typographic installation at the historic 16th-century Camposagrado Palace in Avilés, home to ESAPA, the Superior School of Arts and Design of the Principality of Asturias, transforming its façade into a bold interplay of abstracted letterforms and architecture.
This project turns the façade of a historic building into a giant piece of experimental typography. From afar, “Movimiento” reads like a visual rhythm running across the building. Up close, you start spotting the details that make up each letter: the curves, the cuts, the contrast.
Through a kinetic approach, the abstraction of letterforms and the play between solid and empty space give the windows a sense of flow. It’s almost as if the letters are in motion, frozen mid-shift.
The building’s stone columns act as frames, each holding a different typographic moment. The design and the architecture speak to each other, blending the old-world structure with a distinctly contemporary visual language.
“Movimiento” invites the viewer to look closely at the details that generate each letter, creating a space where learning, creativity, and innovation are nurtured.
As part of the installation, we handed out leaflets matching the format of the window panels, each featuring a single letter. Taken together, they became a pocket-sized version of the façade, letting visitors carry a piece of the work with them.
